Created in Vue with no post work at all, this was my entry in the E-On Software 3D Environment Competition. The concept is an old country estate in Ireland that has fallen into disrepair with the grass crawling over the paths and the broken fountain in the distance.

If you can actually get into a fight with a software program this was the one, the file was massive with billions of polygons and refused to render on a network setting, it would get to 3% of a pre-pass and that was it. So I had to render this on an internal setting at Broadcast quality which eventually completed at 55hrs.

One of things that is frustrating with Vue is that when the files get really large then the materials can “go missing” and some trees would render black, some other objects would have the wrong materials so rather than start over I had to re-import pretty much every tree bush and material.

I had all kinds of issues but eventually got this finished piece, currently working on a new render of The Flying Scotsman on a bright summer day and that one isn’t fighting me at all, which is good because I’d of won anyway!
